Summer grooming isn't just about keeping your pet looking good. In the heat of an Indian summer, it's about keeping them comfortable, healthy, and free from skin issues, matting, and coat damage that this season reliably brings. And while technique matters, so does what you're using — the products, the tools, and the order in which you reach for them.
The FurPro range by Zigly Pet Care is a complete, end-to-end grooming system. From the first brush stroke before the bath to the finishing spritz of cologne, every product has a specific job. This guide walks you through the full routine — step by step, product by product.
Before You Begin: Build Your Kit
Have everything within arm's reach before you start. Once a wet dog decides they're done, the window closes fast.
Tools: Furpro Self-Cleaning Slicker Brush · Furpro Pin Brush · Furpro De-Matting Comb · Furpro Grooming Comb · Furpro Bath & Grooming Brush · Furpro Silicone Brush Paw Washer · Furpro Paw Cleaning & Grooming Accessory · Furpro Nail Cutter
Products: Furpro De-Shedding / Deep Cleaning / Gentle Cleaning Dog Shampoo (choose below) · Furpro De-Shedding Conditioner · Furpro Deep Clean Pet Paw Wash · Furpro De-Shedding Serum · Furpro Nose & Paw Balm · Furpro Cologne
Also keep handy: two absorbent towels, a non-slip mat, and a detachable shower head or rinse cup. Set water to lukewarm — hot water strips the coat's natural oils, which is especially damaging in summer.
Step 1: Pre-Bath Dry Brush
Furpro De-Matting Comb → Furpro Self-Cleaning Slicker Brush → Furpro Pin Brush
Always brush before the bath. Tangles that exist on a dry coat tighten into near-impossible knots once wet.
Start with the Furpro De-Matting Comb on problem areas — behind the ears, under the armpits, around the collar, and at the base of the tail. Its teeth are designed to work through stubborn mats gradually without the excessive pulling that causes coat breakage and discomfort. Follow with the Furpro Self-Cleaning Slicker Brush for an all-over brush-out that lifts loose fur, debris, and surface dirt. The one-click self-cleaning mechanism is genuinely useful here — peak shedding season means you'll be clearing the bristles constantly. For longer or fluffier coats, finish with the Furpro Pin Brush, whose gentle pins glide through without scratching the skin, detangling fine knots and preparing the coat for an even shampoo application.
Pro tip: A thorough pre-bath brush means shampoo reaches the skin more effectively — a better clean with less product.
Step 2: Nail Trimming
Furpro Nail Cutter for Dogs & Cats
Trim nails before the bath, not after — nails are firmer when dry, and most pets are calmer before water is involved. The Furpro Nail Cutter's ergonomic grip and sharp stainless-steel blades cut cleanly in one smooth motion rather than crushing or splitting, which is what causes the discomfort associated with poor-quality trimmers. Trim only the curved tip — never past where the nail begins to curve downward. In summer, with increased outdoor activity, nails grow faster. Monthly trims at minimum, or whenever you hear clicking on the floor.
Step 3: Paw Wash
Furpro Silicone Brush Paw Washer + Furpro Deep Clean Pet Paw Wash · Furpro Paw Cleaning & Grooming Accessory for daily use
Paws need their own dedicated step. Your pet walks on pavements that hit extreme temperatures in Indian summer, picking up dust, bacteria, and grime that body shampoo doesn't effectively reach between the toes.
On bath days, use the Furpro Silicone Brush Paw Washer first — the soft silicone bristles get into the spaces between toes and around pad edges without causing discomfort, while providing a gentle massage your pet will grow to enjoy. Then apply the Furpro Deep Clean Pet Paw Wash, work it into a lather across the pad and between the toes, and rinse thoroughly. The formula removes germs and grime effectively while staying gentle enough not to dry out the sensitive interdigital skin — an area prone to irritation in summer humidity.
On non-bath days, the compact Furpro Paw Cleaning & Grooming Accessory handles quick post-walk hygiene without the full setup. Keeps paws clean between sessions and reduces the outdoor bacteria your pet tracks indoors.
Step 4: Shampoo — Choose the Right One
Three options, each with a clear purpose:
Furpro De-Shedding Dog Shampoo – 300ml — For heavy shedders and double-coated breeds. Beyond cleaning, it actively loosens and releases dead fur from the coat during the bath itself — you'll see significant loose fur coming out in the rinse. Apply generously, work down to the skin, and leave for two to three minutes before rinsing. Use monthly during peak shedding season for noticeable results.
Furpro Deep Cleaning Dog Shampoo – 300ml — For dogs who need a proper reset after muddy walks, outdoor activity, or a sweaty summer week. In summer, sebaceous glands produce more oil in the heat, and this mixes with grime to create buildup a light shampoo won't touch. This one lifts accumulated dirt, excess oil, and odour from the coat and skin without stripping necessary moisture.
Furpro Gentle Cleaning Dog Shampoo – 300ml — For sensitive skin, puppies, senior dogs, and pets who need bathing every two weeks. Mild enough for frequent use, it cleans without disrupting the skin's natural moisture balance — especially valuable when summer heat is already stressing the skin barrier.
Whichever shampoo you use, apply it with the Furpro Bath & Grooming Brush. The soft bristles distribute shampoo evenly through the coat, ensure it reaches the skin rather than sitting on top of the fur, and provide a gentle circulation-boosting massage that makes bath time something your pet actually looks forward to.
Step 5: Conditioner
Furpro De-Shedding Dog Conditioner – 300ml
Never skip the conditioner — especially in summer. The Furpro De-Shedding Dog Conditioner nourishes the coat from root to tip, combating the brittleness and dullness that UV exposure and heat cause over time. Apply after thoroughly rinsing the shampoo, work it through from roots to tips, and leave it for three to five minutes. This sitting time is not optional — it's when the formula actually penetrates the hair shaft and does its work. The de-shedding component continues releasing loose fur as you rinse out, and the result is a coat that's noticeably softer, smoother, and far easier to brush out without discomfort.
Step 6: Dry and Brush Out
Towel-press excess water out — don't rub, which causes frizz and tangles. Blow-dry on the lowest heat setting if your pet tolerates it, brushing through the coat as you go. Ensure the coat is fully dry before the next step — damp fur in summer humidity is a reliable cause of hot spots and skin infections.
Once dry, run the Furpro Grooming Comb through the coat — wide-tooth side first for any remaining tangles, fine-tooth side to finish smooth and even. Follow with the Furpro Bath & Grooming Brush to distribute natural oils restored by the conditioner and give the coat a polished, finished look. This two-tool post-bath brush-out is what separates a good grooming session from a great one.
Step 7: De-Shedding Serum
Furpro De-Shedding Serum for Dogs – 100ml
Applied to the dry, brushed coat, the Furpro De-Shedding Serum is the leave-in treatment that keeps the grooming session working long after it's done. The lightweight formula reduces ongoing hair fall, smooths each hair strand's cuticle, and adds a natural shine — with no stickiness or residue. Dispense a small amount, rub between palms, and work evenly through the coat. Used every two to three days between baths, it visibly reduces shedding around the home and keeps the coat looking freshly groomed for longer.
Step 8: Nose and Paw Balm
Furpro Pet Nose & Paw Balm – 50g
Paw pads crack under the punishment of hot pavements, dry air, and rough surfaces in an Indian summer. The Furpro Nose & Paw Balm is a deeply moisturising treatment that soothes, repairs, and protects both paw pads and dry noses. Massage a small amount into each pad, paying attention to cracks and edges. A thin layer on the nose completes the step. With regular use — after baths and a few times weekly otherwise — rough, cracked pads visibly soften over time.
Pro tip: Apply in the evening after your pet's last walk. It absorbs overnight rather than being walked off immediately.
Step 9: Cologne
Furpro Lily of the Lake – 100ml / Furpro Sweet Melon Breeze – 100ml
Clean coat, soft paws, healthy skin — now the finishing touch. Furpro Lily of the Lake delivers a soothing floral scent that's light and elegant, ideal for calmer pets and indoor living. Furpro Sweet Melon Breeze goes fruitier and more playful — a bright, long-lasting freshness perfect for active dogs who are outdoors often. Both are formulated for pets, not diluted human fragrances, and are safe for regular use. Hold 20–25 cm from the coat, spray lightly along the back, chest, and tail. Always avoid the face, eyes, and ears. Between bath days, a quick spritz keeps your pet cuddle-ready on the spot.
