Opthocare (Cyclosporine) is used to manage dry eye (Keratoconjunctivitis Sicca) and chronic keratoconjunctivitis in dogs and cats by stimulating natural tear production and reducing ocular surface inflammation.
Composition: Cyclosporine IP 0.1% w/v with Benzalkonium Chloride IP 0.004% w/v as preservative.
Indications: Keratoconjunctivitis Sicca (dry eye); chronic keratoconjunctivitis; ocular surface disorders associated with reduced tear production.
Dosage: Apply 1-2 drops in each affected eye twice daily, or as directed by the vet. Long-term, consistent daily use is typically needed for chronic dry eye management.
Directions for Use: Place one drop into the lower eyelid pocket, release the eyelid and allow the pet to blink to spread the solution. Avoid the dropper tip touching the eye or any surface.
How does the medicine work?: Cyclosporine decreases the abnormal immune response in the lacrimal (tear) gland, helping restore normal tear production and reducing the destruction of tear-producing glands, while also reducing pain and inflammation on the ocular surface.
Possible side effects: Mild, temporary irritation or redness is possible. Rarely, an allergic reaction or worsening of symptoms can occur - discontinue and consult the vet if this happens.
