Cefpet Dry Syrup is a reconstitutable oral suspension of the antibiotic Cefpodoxime Proxetil, offering an easy-to-dose liquid alternative to tablets - useful for smaller pets or those that can't swallow tablets easily.
Composition: Cefpodoxime Proxetil (100mg per 5ml as per reconstitution instructions on pack)
Indications: Bacterial skin infections (including Staphylococcus-related), wound infections, bone infections, respiratory infections (e.g., pneumonia), and bladder/urinary infections. Not effective against viral, fungal or parasitic infections.
Dosage: 5-10mg/kg body weight, once daily, typically for 5-7 days or as directed by the vet - complete the full course even if the pet appears well.
Directions for use: Reconstitute with water as per pack instructions before first use; shake well before each dose; can be given with or after food.
How does the medicine work? : Cefpodoxime prevents bacteria from building a stable cell wall, causing the bacterial cell to become unstable and die - effective against a broad range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.
Possible side effects: Vomiting shortly after dosing is the most common side effect. Do not use in pets with known hypersensitivity to cephalosporins or penicillins (cross-reaction possible). Use with caution in pets with kidney disease.
