Melonex is an NSAID oral suspension used to relieve pain and inflammation in dogs and cats with arthritis, musculoskeletal disorders, or post-surgical discomfort, under veterinary prescription.
Composition: Each ml contains 1.5mg Meloxicam.
Indications: Arthritis and osteoarthritis; other musculoskeletal disorders; otitis and dermatitis pain/inflammation; peri-operative pain and inflammation; follow-up treatment after a Meloxicam injection.
Dosage: 0.2mg/kg on the first day, then 0.1mg/kg once daily from the second day onward, or as directed by the vet.
Directions for use: Give with food - do not administer on an empty stomach. Use the dispenser provided for precise dosing.
How does the medicine work: Meloxicam selectively inhibits the COX-2 enzyme, reducing the production of prostaglandins responsible for pain, fever and inflammation, with less effect on the protective COX-1 pathway than older NSAIDs.
Possible side effects: Do not use in pets with bleeding disorders, or gastrointestinal, renal, or hepatic issues. Avoid combining with steroids, other NSAIDs, or anticoagulants. Overdose can cause vomiting, GI bleeding, or dark/tarry stools - contact the vet immediately if these occur.
