Composition: Each tablet contains 0.2 mg of Levothyroxine Sodium IP 0.2mg.
Indications: Hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid) in dogs and cats, presenting with decreased metabolism, lethargy, weight gain, and skin/coat problems.
Dosage: 0.02-0.04mg/kg body weight per day, or as directed by the vet; the dose may be increased by 25% if Total T4 exceeds 6mcg/dL, based on follow-up blood testing.
Directions for use: Give once daily, at a consistent time, with or without food as directed by the vet. Treatment is typically lifelong.
How does the medicine work? :Β Levothyroxine (LT4) is converted in the body to the active hormone T3, which binds thyroid receptor proteins to regulate DNA transcription, stimulate protein synthesis, promote gluconeogenesis, and increase basal metabolic rate - restoring normal metabolic function in hypothyroid pets.
Possible side effects: Regular monitoring of thyroid hormone levels (T4) is needed to adjust the dose correctly; use only under veterinary supervision, as both under- and over-dosing can cause problems.
