Simparica TRIO is an all-in-one monthly chewable for small dogs (2.6-5kg) that prevents heartworm disease, treats and prevents fleas and ticks, and treats and controls roundworms and hookworms, in a single flavoured tablet.
Composition: Each tablet provides a minimum of 1.2mg/kg Sarolaner, 24mcg/kg Moxidectin, and 5mg/kg Pyrantel (as pamoate salt) - for this weight band, approximately 6mg Sarolaner, 0.12mg Moxidectin, and 25mg Pyrantel.
Indications: Prevention of heartworm disease; treatment and prevention of flea infestations; prevention of tapeworm (Dipylidium caninum) via flea control; treatment and control of several tick species (including those transmitting Lyme disease); treatment and control of roundworms and hookworms.
Dosage: One chewable tablet once a month, matched to the dog's 2.6-5kg weight band, for dogs and puppies 8 weeks of age and older weighing at least 1.25kg.
Directions for Use: Can be given with or without food. Ensure the dog consumes the entire tablet; observe for a few minutes after dosing.
How does the medicine work?: Sarolaner (an isoxazoline) kills fleas and ticks by overstimulating their nervous system; moxidectin prevents heartworm larvae from developing into adults and treats certain intestinal parasites; pyrantel paralyses and expels roundworms and hookworms - together covering five major parasite threats in one monthly dose.
Possible side effects: Isoxazoline-class drugs (sarolaner) have been associated with neurologic adverse reactions such as tremors, ataxia and seizures - use with caution in dogs with a history of seizures. Most common side effects are vomiting and diarrhoea. Safety in breeding, pregnant or lactating dogs has not been evaluated.
