Cortavance is a topical corticosteroid spray used to relieve itching and inflammation from skin conditions such as hotspots and atopic dermatitis, working only in the skin without the systemic side effects of oral steroids.
Composition: Each ml contains 0.584mg Hydrocortisone Aceponate, a diester-class glucocorticoid, in a propylene glycol methyl ether solvent base.
Indications: Inflammatory and pruritic (itchy) skin conditions; hotspots; atopic dermatitis; localised dermatoses, as diagnosed by the vet.
Dosage: 2 pump activations per 10cm x 10cm area of affected skin, once daily for 7 consecutive days. Do not treat more than 1/3 of the pet's total body surface.
Directions for use: Spray from about 10cm away from the skin; no massage needed; avoid the eyes when spraying near the face. No shaving required except with very long coats. Let the area dry naturally.
How does the medicine work? : Hydrocortisone aceponate penetrates the skin and is locally activated to deliver targeted anti-inflammatory action, with minimal absorption into the bloodstream - which is why it avoids the systemic side effects of oral/injectable steroids.
Possible side effects: Very rare, mild local reactions (redness or itching) at the application site. Any concurrent bacterial or parasitic skin infection should be treated separately, as directed by the vet. Do not use on open skin ulcers.
