Drontal Puppy Suspension is a liquid dewormer specifically for young puppies, using pyrantel and febantel to clear the common roundworms and hookworms that puppies are frequently born with or pick up from nursing.
Composition: Pyrantel (as pamoate/embonate) and Febantel in a palatable oral suspension base.
Indications: Roundworm (Toxocara canis, Toxascaris leonina) and hookworm (Ancylostoma caninum, Uncinaria stenocephala) infections in puppies; whipworm control via febantel's nematode activity.
Dosage: Dosed by body weight (approx. 1ml per kg, consistent with a 1 unit-dose per 10kg standard) - shake well and follow the measuring guide on the pack; repeat as advised by the vet, since puppies are often wormed every 2 weeks until 12 weeks of age.
Directions for use: Shake well before use. Give directly by oral syringe or mix into a small amount of food.
How does the medicine work? : Pyrantel causes spastic paralysis in hookworms and roundworms, allowing them to be expelled; febantel disrupts the energy metabolism of nematode parasites - together clearing the worm types most common in young puppies.
Possible side effects: Generally well tolerated; mild vomiting or soft stools can occur. Follow the vet's deworming schedule for the puppy's age and weight.
