Opthocare Cool is an artificial tear eye drop that cleanses, cools and lubricates the ocular surface, providing relief from dry eye (KCS) and general eye irritation in dogs and cats.
Composition: Carboxymethylcellulose Sodium 0.5% w/v, with a stabilised oxychloride complex 0.005% w/v as preservative, in a sterile aqueous base.
Indications: Dry eye sensation and Keratoconjunctivitis Sicca (KCS); burning or red eye; general eye cleansing and lubrication; supportive use before/after other eye treatments (except glaucoma treatment).
Dosage: Cats: 1-2 drops in the affected eye(s) twice daily for 7 days. Dogs: 2-4 drops in the affected eye(s) twice daily for 7 days, or as directed by the vet.
Directions for use: Gently pull down the lower eyelid and instil the drops into the conjunctival sac, avoiding contact between the dropper tip and the eye.
How does the medicine work: Carboxymethylcellulose forms a lubricating film over the ocular surface, improving wetting and reducing friction-related irritation, which is especially useful in dry-eye conditions.
Possible side effects: Generally well tolerated. Should be used with caution before half an hour prior to other eye medications if being used as a pre-treatment rinse, except in cases of glaucoma.
